It’s still a bit cold but without a doubt one can say that spring is approaching! Perhaps you have also seen some plum blossom flowers blooming in your neighborhood too! Cherry blossoms bloom after plum blossoms and this year it is expected that cherry blossoms will be in peak , in Hyogo, from the week of March 25th!

Kobe Oji Zoo

Oji Zoo is well known for it’s cherry blossoms in Kobe. There is a “cherry blossom tunnel” you can experience in the Zoo. There is also “night time viewing” you can participate in.

Sumaura Park

A famous site which was used as a battleground during the Genpai War. The park was built in commemoration of the Emperor Showa. When the park was built Yoshino cherry blossom trees were planted, there are about 2,200 trees planted . This spot is also known for being a scenic area where you can see Akashi Bridge and Kobe Airport.

Zenpukuji

A Buddhist temple started by Gyoki and revitalized by Ninsai. Gyoki laid the foundation of this temple and Ninsai revitalized it. The statue of Prince Shotoku created during the Kamakura Period is registered as an important cultural property. There is a 270 year old shidare-sakura cherry blossom tree called itozakura which has been designated as the citizen’s tree of Kobe. Every year in April there is a cherry blossom festival followed by a tea party.  [x]

Tarumi

Large Cherry Tree in Tarumi

These are the biggest Prunus pendula cherry trees in Hyogo which is designated as a natural monument. Height of the tree is 13.8m, the length around the trunk is 6.3m, and it is said that it is over 1,000 years old. Also, it is called “Senou” and in the old days it was a place well known for beautiful cherry blossoms where lord of Izushi domain visited to see them.  [x]
