[edit] Tokyo Orientation

Tokyo Orientation is the three day conference you have when you first come to Japan. To read more about what your schedule will look like, go to Arriving In Japan. For more information, you can also give CLAIR's website a look. If you are a recontracting JET and you want to apply to be a Tokyo Orientation Assistant, the application deadline will probably be early March. Look for application information from your CO or in the february edition of CLAIR News.

[edit] Yashiro

The town may change it's name, but Hyogo's orientation for first year ALTs will always be known as Yashiro. For more information, go to Yashiro Orientation.

[edit] Mid-year Conference

Mid-year Conferences for ALTs are organized by each prefecture. The Hyogo BOE organizes the two-day Mid-year Conference for Hyogo ALTs, which is held in Kobe, usually around January. For more information, go to The Mid-Year Conference.

As there aren't as many of us, the Mid-year Conference for CIRs and SEAs is organized by CLAIR in Tokyo. More about that can be found on CLAIR's website.

[edit] Returning JETs

This is the only contract on the list that is not mandatory for anybody. In fact, you have to apply if you want to go, and most Contracting Organizations require their JETs to use Paid Leave. Read more about it on CLAIR's website.

[edit] April Orientation

Not all JETs come to Japan in the fall, and CLAIR holds a 2 day conference welcoming JETs from countries such as Brazil, China, Korea, and Peru. Read more about it on CLAIR's website.

[edit] Re-contracting Conference

In late May/early June, two conferences are held for first years who decide to recontract. ALTs from western Japan (that includes Hyogo) meet in Kobe, whereas CIRs, SEAs, and ALTs from eastern Japan meet in Tokyo. Read more about both on CLAIR's website.

[edit] Other Conferences

Aside from those listed here, there are also training seminars held for PAs and people who take either the Pedagogy course or the Translation Course, as well as various Opinion Exchanges. For more information, visit CLAIR's Website.
