The Information and Advisory Service Center was established by the HIA to provide consultation services for foreign residents. The center can provide confidential consultation (in English) on anything from daily life to legal matters.

The Hyogo International Plaza is located in HAT Kobe, just south of JR Nada Station and Hanshin Iwaya Station. It has a well stocked library with nearly every Japanese text book and Lonely Planet guidebook every made! They also have a decent selection of books in English (including novels, books on martial arts, life in Japan, etc.) There is free internet access for foreign residents. There are also excellent Japanese classes available, free except for the cost of books. They also have a huge array of maps, tourist guides, copies of Kansai Scene and an information board.

Directions

From Sannomiya, take the local JR train one stop to Nada (don't take the Rapid or Express - it won't stop at Nada). Or take the local or express Hanshin train to Iwaya. Exit south and walk downhill for 10 min. Once you get to the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of art, take a right turn and walk a few minutes west. The International Plaza is on the second story of the IHD building.

CHIC is a non-profit community service organization committed to meeting the needs of the international community in Kobe, Japan. CHIC's goal is to serve as a bridge between the international community and the Kobe community at large, to help both newcomers and long-time residents get the most out of their stay in Japan. They offer a number of different classes on cooking, culture, Japanese language, and much more.

The Himeji International Exchange Center (HIEC) was developed for use as a facility to promote multiculturalism in Himeji. Among its functions are to gather and provide information, support the activities of NGO (Non-governmental organizations) groups and volunteers, to provide consultation services for foreign residents, to promote cooperation among local administrative bodies, NGOs, schools, business enterprises, and the like.

Kobe International Community Center (KICC)

神戸市中央区御幸通 8-1-6 20階 The KICC gives advice, free Japanese lessons provided by volunteers, a private English lesson scheme, cultural classes and more. There are also English message and notice boards, and a free international library for browsing that is equipped with international papers and magazines. From JR Sannomiya Station, go south on Flower Road. The center will only be a few minutes down Flower Road on your left. If you reach McDonalds, you have just passed the building. The building is made of dark brick and the KICC can be found on the 20th floor.

• Immigration & Residency: Consultation on application procedures for entering and leaving the country and residence status, etc. Every Monday / 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month, 13:00 - 16:00
• Administrative Procedures: Consultation on Nationalization procedures and other administrative procedures. 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month, 13:00 - 16:00
• Everyday Living Consultation: On everyday living problems. Monday-Friday 10:00 - 17:00
