Tajima Ben

「但馬弁」is the local dialect of Japanese spoken in the Tajima region of Hyogo-ken (Northern Hyogo). Although it is somewhat akin to Kansai/Kinki-ben it is quite different. Most Japanese will understand standard Japanese (what you study in your textbooks) well enough, but you can always impress the locals and make them happy by trying to use the local dialect.
