U.S. Taxes Time!
Now that April 15th has come and gone, U.S. JETs, do you know where your taxes are? Last year, taxes were a total nightmare for me. I filed for an extension, but I filed too late, and even got a note from the IRS saying as much (Sorry, no, we can’t give you an extension because you are an idiot). It was a stupendous source of stress and pain; I hate dealing with money. I’m not terrible at it, but with so many logs on the fire, I’m more than a little scatterbrained, especially in the spring.
I happened upon this tax guide, by your friendly PAs in Kumamoto, and thought it might save some people a lot of pain and suffering. There is also a tax guide in the book given to you by JET, but in the spirit of all the help we can get:

It won’t pull you through your individual state taxes, but only first years need worry about that, and hopefully you didn’t work in three different states for various weights of peanuts in the year before you came to Japan.
So good luck, and happy refunding (hopefully)!
